TROY

| The name
of Troy is thought to be derived from that of the Troes (or Trojans)
so called from Tros, one of the Founders of Troy (M. W. Edards,
The Iliad: A commentary. Vol. V, p.319, on XX, 230-2).
But the name is likely derived from the tro-, "three"
(Fr. trois) marshes in the region, the TROIC PLAIN (Glibusa),
ILEIAN PLAIN (Hutovo Blato) and HYPOPLAKIA (Jezero Kuti), which
inspired the name of Tros, born in the environs (perhaps Glibusa?). |
