TIME-LINE
OF THE ILIAD AND THE ODYSSEY COMPARED
The Iliad, perhaps originally inscribed
on a long parchment scroll, not unlike a Torah, and divided
into 36 parts, each representing a lunation, eventually became
partitioned into 24 books, each representing a letter of the
Greek alphabet (after the digamma and the koppa
had been dropped from use), sometime near 550 BC under the aegis
of the Athenian Pisistratidae.
